Basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) are performed on two numbers and are known as binary operations. Binary means ‘two’. Various properties govern the ways binary operations are carried out. The closure property simply states that when you add or multiply any two real numbers together, you will get only one unique answer and that answer will also be a real number. At the end of this module, among other things, students will gain very good understanding of properties of binary operation, tabular and non-tabular binary operations, and identity and inverse element.
