Common, important features shared by a large variety of living organisms are used to classify them. Classification of living things follows a particular order: kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species; when arranged from the highest level to the lowest. Living things belong to one of these five major kingdoms: Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae and Animalia. Living things are named using the genus and species names. At the end of this module, among other things, students will gain very good understanding of hierarchy of living organisms, binomial nomenclature, kingdom animalia, and complexity of organisms.
